Lakemont Station Area Pedestrian Safety Improvements

Crossing, sidewalk, and lighting improvements within a half mile of the Lakemont Transit Center, including the Lake Street and 4th Avenue intersection.

The Regional Safety Action Plan identified the area around the Lakemont Transit Center as part of the region's High Injury Network. Seven pedestrian crashes, two of them fatal, occurred within a quarter mile of the transit center between 2020 and 2024.

Proposed improvements

  • Curb extensions and a leading pedestrian interval at Lake Street and 4th Avenue
  • A rectangular rapid flashing beacon crossing at Lake Street and Grove Street
  • 1.3 miles of new or widened sidewalk
  • Pedestrian-scale lighting on 4th Avenue

  • Environmental review begins

    Staff have begun environmental documentation. A community walk audit with residents is planned for October 2026.
