Accessible Bus Stop Modernization

Upgrades to bus stops across the region so that every stop has an accessible boarding area, a connecting sidewalk, and, where ridership warrants, a shelter.

  6. Complete (not started)

A 2022 inventory found that 41 percent of the region's 1,380 bus stops did not have a firm, level boarding area meeting ADA requirements. The program prioritizes stops by ridership, proximity to medical and social services, and requests from riders.

Phase 1 (complete)

Between 2023 and May 2026, 212 stops were upgraded with concrete boarding pads, curb ramps, and sidewalk connections. 64 of those stops received new shelters and benches.

Phase 2 (in design)

Phase 2 will upgrade 180 additional stops. The construction Invitation for Bids is open through October 20, 2026.
